Its permanent exhibition displays about 1,500 pieces that cover the history of Álava from Prehistory to the Middle Ages.

However, the museum houses a much richer total collection, as it is the repository of materials from all the archaeological work carried out in the Historical Territory of Álava since the end of the 19th century.

Permanent Exhibition

This is laid out on three floors where you can see various objects that cover a chronological span from Prehistory to the end of the Middle Ages.

On the first floor you can see the first instruments that our Paleolithic ancestors made in stone; Their subsequent technical development, marking the transition from a hunter-gatherer society to that of producer, towards the Neolithic; and finally, the revolution that led to the discovery and use of metals.

On the second floor you can see the continuation of this process of introducing metals with the appearance and consolidation of iron.

Finally, on the third floor, transformations brought about by contact with the Roman world: the emergence of cities, roadways, rural villages, thermal baths, etc.; and, lastly, late-ancient and medieval and objects from necropoli, villages, churches and the new towns that mark the renaissance of the world during the final centuries of the period.
