Nighttime sounds

icon-calendar

Winter (December to February, when birds are most vocal).

icon-clock

2.5–3 hours, at night.

icon-location

Forested areas of the reservoir.

Immerse yourself in the silence of the forest and listen to the sounds that emerge after dark. In this guided experience you will get to know the reservoir’s nocturnal birds including tawny owls and long-eared owls, and learn to recognise their calls in the wild.

This activity is scheduled to take place at night, and after an easy walk, the guide will help you to identify the sounds, understand the behaviour of these species and enjoy a different kind of experience under the stars.

You can also take part in simple listening surveys that help monitor these birds and support their conservation.

  • Ideal for: Families and nature-lovers.
  • Difficulty: Easy, with a short and simple route.
  • Remember: This activity is dependent on the weather and natural bird activity.
  • What to take: Warm clothes, comfortable footwear and a headtorch. The guide will provide any additional equipment.
